As part of the Ohio High School Transformation Initiative, Cleveland Heights High School has developed five small learning communities within the school, with the goal to improve student achievement – to increase the number of students who graduate, attend college, score well on standardized tests, take the most advanced classes available, participate in leadership programs, and view school as an engaging place to learn.
Students at Heights High are placed into one of five Small Schools within the Cleveland Heights High School facility, each with about 400 students. These five Small Schools are organized around several major elements, including instructional models. All Small Schools offer a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for advanced post secondary opportunities.
Heights students are engaged in learning experiences that prepare them for the Ohio Graduation Test, incorporate curriculum aligned to state standards, and have opportunities to participate in Advanced Placement courses, post secondary education options, advisory groups, community service, senior projects, and all music and athletic programs.
When choosing a Small School, families of new students should consider which type of learning will best benefit the child.
