Heights Robotics Club Needs Volunteers for January 25 Competition

Dec. 12, 2019 -- The 40 students in the Heights High Robotics Club are a pretty capable bunch: they can design, program, build, and operate robotic units that perform tasks, such as threading a nine-inch object onto a pole, throwing a ball at a hard plastic flag causing it to spin, and parking on a raised platform. They’ve also won serious competitions in the past, taking 2nd place at regionals last year and advancing to the state tournament.

But right now, they need your help.

Heights High will host its first ever VEX Robotics Competition on Saturday, January 25, 2020 with 50 participating teams traveling from as far as Wooster, Ohio. Greg Nachman, adviser of the robotics club and Math and Engineering teacher at the high school, is excited to his students’ talents at the competition. But he knows it will take the time and energy of dozens of people: that’s where you come in.

The club needs volunteers to do everything from selling concessions and directing traffic in the parking lot to helping teams line up for their next competition.

Anyone is welcome to sign up, from high school and college students who need community service hours to district parents and community residents. There is even an excellent opportunity for middle school students who are needed to reset the competition fields after each round.

Please visit this link to sign up for a volunteer task. You can choose your own time slot over the course of the day (between 7am and 6:30pm depending on the task) with a minimum two-hour commitment.

The club is also seeking sponsorships to help offset the cost of running this tournament and attending others throughout the season. Please read this brochure or visit the club’s GoFundMe if you or your company might be interested in supporting this worthy cause.

No idea what you're signing up for? Check out this two-minute video and learn what a VEX Competition is all about.
