Marketing Program Students Win Awards
The Marketing Course/DECA program students won awards at the DECA Winter Competition.
Feb. 3, 2017 -- Nine Heights High School students in the Marketing Management course/DECA program competed in the District 8 DECA Winter Competitions at the Tri-C East Corporate College on January 26.
DECA is a non-profit educational organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
More than 500 students from 14 schools competed for the chance to advance to the Ohio DECA competitions in Columbus on March 17 – 18.
Eight Height High students won awards and qualified to compete in the State competitions:
- Daisjonai “Daisy” Smith: 2nd Place, Personal Selling Event – Real Estate
- Haywood Algee: 2nd Place, Personal Selling Event– Financial Consulting
- Jayana Watson: 3rd Place, Personal Financial Literacy
- Xavier O’Neal: 4th Place, Personal Financial Literacy
- Tiarria Vauss: 5th Place, Personal Financial Literacy
- Diassante Greene: 3rd Place, Principles of Business Administration
- Jamya Terry: 3rd Place, Principles of Finance
- Christopher Garrett: 3rd Place, Principles of Marketing
Participating schools included: Auburn Career Center, Bedford High School, Cuyahoga County Career Center, Jane Addams Business Careers Center, Lorain County JVS, Mentor High School, Maple Heights High School, Normandy High School, Parma Senior High School, Strongsville High School, Valley Forge High School, and Willoughby – Eastlake Career Academy.
Student participation in the local and state DECA competitions is made possible by a generous grant from AT & T.
The Marketing Management course is part of the Heights High Career and Technical Education program for juniors and seniors. The course introduces students to the specializations offered in the field of marketing.
