CHHS Students Selected for Governor's Art Exhibition

Mar. 26, 2024 -- Seniors Juliet Duffy and Alex Fisher had art pieces juried in the 2024 Governor’s Art Exhibition at the regional level to go on to the state judging. The advanced studio art students’ pieces were selected by a jury of college educators and artists from 1,266 works of art by 9th through 12th grade students from across Cuyahoga County.

It has been incredible for Sarah Cooper, Alex and Juliet’s art teacher, to watch them grow as artists over the last three years at Cleveland Heights High School. “Their natural abilities have absolutely blossomed because of their intrinsic motivation and perseverance,” said Ms. Cooper. “I am not at all surprised that their efforts have earned them recognition in such a prestigious show and look forward to seeing all the ways they find success as creative professionals in the future.”

An award ceremony will be held for the students and their families on April 21 at noon. The exhibition will be on view at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus from April 21-May 16 on weekdays from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Each year, the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition recognizes the high quality of visual arts education that exists in the state. With a purpose to provide all budding young artists in Ohio with the opportunity to advance their talent, the exhibition wants the community to understand the value and importance of arts education for young people. The exhibition is a cooperative effort between the Governor of Ohio, the Ohio Department of Education, colleges, universities, and business sponsors.
